New Narnia

Lowell and I recently watched Prince Caspian (the new Chronicles of Narnia movie).

We paid special attention to the scenery because we knew that at least part of the movie was filmed right here in New Zealand.

Well, you can imagine our delight when the kids stumbled into 'Narnia'... and it was CATHEDRAL COVE!!

Look familiar? I hope so...cuz here I am in the SAME SPOT! (This was taken during our Coromandel holiday).

CELEBRITY COVE! CELEBRITY COVE!

Remember when I valiantly attempted to hop atop the rock?...

But got pelted by waves instead?...

All at Cathedral Cove, my friends. All at Cathedral Cove.

Here are Peter, Susan, Edmond, and Lucy again...

And here we are photoshopped oh so realistically in the same spot! (We WERE actually there, but we just didn't have a picture of us TOGETHER, okay?).

It was weeks ago that we saw the movie, but I must admit that I'm still a little giddy with delight (slightly pathetic, I know). We're looking forward to returning to the now famous cove and perhaps reenacting some scenes from Narnia. (We'll need another boy and another girl to make it more realistic... Marc & Kylie? I'll be Susan. Kylie, you can be Lucy. You're shorter. Marc & Lowell- you guys fight out who gets to be the handsome king Peter.)

So, if you watch this movie, you can think of your (now celebrity) NZ friends, Lowell and Julie (ha).

PS- 5 stars for Prince Caspian! Comes highly recommended by us... and not just because of the celebrity cove.

I think Marc should be Peter, since your dad's name is Peter and all. ;)
Fun pictures! We will wait to see the movie until we have actually been there.

Another reason to watch Prince Caspian! Perhaps we can do that when home for Christmas. One question, why is every claasical fantasy film done in New Zealand. Whats wrong with Edmonton?

Hail King Marcus! Perhaps we should have a sword fight to see who will be the high king?

Carlynne, they film the fantasy genre here because it looks and feels like another world. It really does. Driving through the hills and mountains, even the quirky rolling plains (hobbiton) all have a look that is much different than anything I have seen before. Also, there are not many people or cities to deal with when filming. 1/3 of the country is parks. It also helps that US money goes a long way here.

Here are just some of the recent films that have been made here:

The Piano, Once Were Warriors, Heavenly Creatures, The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, King Kong, Whale Rider, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, Bridge to Terabithia, The Last Samurai, In My Father's Den, and The World's Fastest Indian.

If you are in the mood for a movie, check any of these out. ok, education session over...
