Girls will be Girls and Boys will be Boys

On Friday night, the girls and boys of our small group divided. The boys did their boy thing, and the girls did their girl thing. The boys’ evening was so typically MALE as they ate ridiculous amounts of meat and played poker. You don’t get any more ‘male’ than that. There was even a dead lizard IN the poker table. ew.

(Edward needed a little assistance with his poker face.)

The girls thing turned out to be a surprise birthday party for ME! I had me no idear. I let myself into the house (as the door was left slightly ajar), and it was PITCH DARK inside. I navigated around the balloons in the entry way, and made my way down the hall to the living room. When I made my grande entrance, the gals burst into a melodious chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’.

By the way, I now have a whole new respect for people that aren’t twins. Can that 'Happy Birthday’ song possibly be pared down a little? It’s kind of awkwardly long to take alone- no matter how lovely the voices. I just don't know where to look or how to act. Normally Carlynne and I sing to each other which makes me a lot less skittish and awkward.

Anyhoo, Lowell had clued the girls in about my favourite snacks/desserts (Mini sandwiches! Veggies! Chocolate fondue! Apple crisp!) and we watched one of my all-time favourite movies (You’ve Got Mail!). Aren’t they wonderful? I even got some gifts out of the deal: flowers, NZ bath salts, and (drum roll please) the FLIGHT OF THE CONCORDS CD!!

This was Lowell and my first taste of FOTC, and it shall be yours as well. These Kiwis are FUNNY (albeit a tad inappropriate). Introducing... 'Business Time':

Here's the lot of us…

L to R: Fiona, Libby, Jackie, Sarah, Natalie, Deborah (and me in front).

After a late night, we woke up early Sunday morning for Lowell’s FUN RUN!

Of course, he showed up as a walking billboard for Canada (nothing new there)…

There was also a half marathon and a walk going on. There were 1500 racers in total.

I liked that Lowell was standing beside the dude with the neon yellow hat because otherwise I might’ve never spotted him…can YOU spot him?

(PS- I’m not sure why the tiny little walking children stood at the very FRONT. They were a bit of a hindrance for all the speedy competitive men directly behind them. DANGER!)

Fast forward to the end of the race. He’s givin’ ‘er…

And he finished in 47:14- 17th out of 566 people doing the 11km. WOW! They announced him as ‘Paul West’ when he crossed the finish line, but what the heck- he still did wicked.

Lance and David also did awesome.

Here’s the little cheering squad:

During the race, Nat and I soaked up the people watching, and we spotted the most AMAZING set of female legs. They were long, lean, tanned, and hairless. We kept seeking the owner of the legs out, and I casually had my camera all ready to sneak a picture of them (they were too good to be true and had to be documented), but I accidentally pressed the ‘off’ button instead of the ‘take picture’ button. Dang. It’s just as well I guess- this way I won’t be institutionalized for being Creepy McCreeperton.

Anyhoo, a huge thank you to my awesome Kiwi friends and a big ol' congratulations to LOWELL (aka Paul). The dude makes me so proud.

Happy birthday Julie! That is so fun that you actually get to celebrate your birthday a day before Carlynn. :)

Soo...Darcen and I LOVE Flight of the Concords...the show and the CD! And now we feel even more connected to it because we live in a town called Concord.

Anyway, glad to hear things are going so well for you two, and congrats to Lowell!

happy birthday julie! that surprise party sounds fantastic (for you)!

and getting kiwi specific gifts too... doug really wanted the two of us to sing "business time" at carlynne's wedding, but i too thought it was a little inappropriate, so i opted for the stripshow instead.

also congratulations to lowell. looks like a fun race day.

Ummm your first exposure to FOTC? I have let you down. We've been laughing along with their audiences for months and months... sigh, I even have a sweet poster of them on the door on my right.
Happy BIRTHDAY!!!!

Oh yes, and to clarify, we were FIRST introduced to FOTC several months ago in CANADA, and have since enjoyed every single one of their songs & episodes. They are so hilarious. I do indeed hope to meet them on the streets of NZ.

Happy Birthday, Julie! We thought of you often yesterday as it was your birthday already over there. So happy your friends threw a party for you, what better way to make you feel at home? And I thought you were running in the race too? Regardless, congratulations on a great race, Lowell!

I'm trying to figure out how to get this camera to be compatible with this computer (vista issues) and then I'll send you some pictures of our race.
